Plot[]

The story starts with Shieldy rousing from a nightmare that an explosion took him away from the Golden Ticket. Shieldy gets up in the middle of the night, hearing PartyHat set up a party for BOTO's 10th birthday. PartyHat confesses that with all the excitement, he is unable to sleep, so Shieldy just tells him not to be loud. PartyHat realizes he should stop talking about the party since it could risk ruining the surprise.

On the morning of January 1, 2023, Boat, Slurpy and Popsicley meet and chat. Boat mentions that a lot of time passed since the finale. Popsicley realizes that BOTO turned 10 years old, and Slurpy figures PartyHat was talking about that a lot. She wonders if he did anything interesting, but Boat denies since he didn't tell them anything. Popsicley then breaks the fourth wall by saying a fan of BOTO released this story on this date. Boat runs up to a collection of walls, but the fourth one vanishes before she can kick it.

HotDog then chats with Controlly about how they pulled off the scheme to find Rook, but Pizza spies on the conversation and eventually decides to report them to the police. Boat meets up with Baguette who notes that she finally knows the day on the calendar, only to realize it's the first day of the year, unlike when Controlly announced it being October (in BOTO 7). Pear says she doesn't care because she finds her style in fashion more important than the anniversary.

In the next scene, Shieldy sulks on his bed, and Popsicley confronts Pinecone. Pinecone tries to flirt with her, but she tells him that after a lot of battling, he stole the prize from Shieldy. She claims that Shieldy is most likely laying upset in his room, but Pinecone is apathetic. Pinecone leaves, aiming for someone to find him cute.

Meanwhile, in Shieldy's room, he is face-down on his bed, sobbing, while PartyHat consoles him for the lost prize. He reminds Shieldy that things can change and that they both still got a lot out of the competition. Scissors peers through, wondering why Shieldy only started to be sad about this after four years.

Boombox is then seen asking Big Orange Chicken how he felt about the eggs having been cracked in the finale. Big Orange Chicken responds agitated, and Boombox comforts him. This makes Slurpy mad, since Boombox seemed apathetic about her friend Shelly having gone through many things in the finale. Chocolatey reminds her that she cared about Shelly.

As Shieldy walks down the stairs from his room, Shamrock appears and asks what is going on. Once Shamrock hears (from Shieldy and Chocolatey) that BOTO had its finale, Shieldy tells the story of how after much intense battling, he won but his prize was swiped. This results in him crying. Chocolatey realizes this happened since Shieldy's the youngest contestant (as confirmed by Anko6). Shamrock decides to take Shieldy on a journey so he can get his wish back, and when Shieldy asks how this can be done, Shamrock states that she knows when a prize gets stolen, hope can be found in the original location it was involved. So they go to Canada where "English Settlers" took place.

PartyHat is telling the other members of the final 5 (Shelly, Pizza and HotDog) that when Shieldy arrives, he'll take them somewhere special. But Shieldy shows up with Shamrock and says they're going to go to Canada so PartyHat will have to wait to present it to him. Shamrock tells PartyHat that, for his safety, he should not come with them; PartyHat agrees because he doesn't want others to see his setup when he's not around. Shieldy and Shamrock thus cast off.

On the helicopter, Shieldy recalls that Rook vanished in the lake so the prize at that time was never given, and he might be able to get that. Shamrock thinks the old prize was just becoming the new ruler, but Shieldy denies since a race isn't really a test of being an honest ruler. When they arrive in Canada, Shieldy notices a sleeping Napkin hung by a rope. He immediately gets the impression that the monarchs treat intruders harshly, but Shamrock claims they probably only did that to Napkin since he slept too much. Shieldy asserts they ought to fully obey the monarchs for safety. Then he finds himself hungry, so he goes to get food.

In the throne room, the king yells at Prince Emerald for intruding, even though he is benevolent with a new invention. By command, Prince Emerald leaves, and then Shieldy and Shamrock attempt to enter the room, only to be stopped by guards. When Shieldy says he's young and doesn't have an ID card, they do not let him in. Shamrock then reassures Shieldy that while it may be impossible for him to get his wish back, they still had a nice journey. But when the guards overhear that Shieldy won the modern BOTO, they decide to let him in after all. However, they deny access for Shamrock.

Shieldy faces the monarchs and asks what the prize for the winner was supposed to be in the original English Settlers. The queen calmly responds that the prize was intended to be a magical wishing coin, but they believed the coin stopped working after many years, and the coin analyst never confirmed anything for them. This makes Shieldy sad, so he describes his situation to the monarchs. The king reassures him that when a wish is stolen, the thief will eventually lose the wish while the ticket comes back--but the time and location of the ticket coming back will be unknown, so Shieldy would just need to be lucky enough to find it.

The story then cuts to the party where Pizza wonders if Shieldy will miss the entire celebration, and PartyHat tells him that's unlikely. Pinecone attempts to get a pretzel stick, but before he reaches it, his body shrinks back to his original size.

Back in Canada, Shieldy sits on a ledge, believing that he'll never get to make a wish. But then Prince Emerald appears with his recovery device, saying that after Princess Diamond and Gareth left him, he designed a recovery center for unforgettable characters who died before modern technology came out. He claimed that it was easy to use--one just needed to close their eyes, picture the desired character, then press the button. Shieldy is amazed, and as he helped Prince Emerald complete his quest in BOTO 13, Prince Emerald allows him to choose a character to recover.

Shieldy goes with the Pawn who competed against Rook in English Settlers. When Pawn revives, Shieldy tells them the situation of what happened, but eventually sees the Golden Ticket on the back of their head. He grabs the ticket and excitedly tells Shamrock that he found it. As Shamrock notes that he still has a wish to make, Shieldy decides to wish for happiness and justice to be restored.

Finally, Shieldy leaves Canada and joins PartyHat's anniversary party, telling him about what happened. At the party, HotDog loses at a box-catching game by getting three strikes. Right after that, Badgey (from BOTO 8) pulls him out and puts him under arrest for cheating to find the lost contestant. Shieldy finds that rough, but then remembers his wish for justice to be restored, making that a sign his wish came true. PartyHat lies down tired, saying it was a great day for a celebration.

After that, the story displays a "Happy Birthday!" message, end credits, and one last part with the finalists of English Settlers.

Trivia[]

  • This is Sleep Mast R's first YouTube premiere with a trailer on the watch page.
  • The credits music are an export of Sleep Mast R's transcription of "Bulletproof" by Antony Kos.
    • Except for the ominous music at the beginning, and "Bulletproof," the music was written by Sleep Mast R.
  • Shamrock was a recommended character by BlueLucario98, up for debut in BOTO 5. However, she only got two votes and didn't join.
  • The first few scenes of the story were written to ensure screen time for every BOTO contestant (though the failed debut candidates didn't appear except for Shamrock).
  • This story reveals Sleep Mast R's headcanon that the monarchs tend to speak English when they are calm, but French when they are not.

References[]

  • Popsicley breaking the fourth wall references BOTO 6, where she broke the fourth wall by pointing to the viewer and saying "You don't even know either!"
    • Incidentally, this is followed by Boat attempting to kick down a fourth wall, an official BOTO running gag.
  • The information in the Rook Explanation Video is used several times:
    • Controlly and HotDog made up a scheme to find Rook, and that's what HotDog's Person Finder was for.
    • The monarchs from the Rook Explanation Video are present, whilst designed in the old BOTO style.
    • In English Settlers, Rook raced against a Pawn, but the Pawn died of a brain implosion right before reaching the finish, while Rook attempted to cross through the frozen lake and wound up freezing down there. (In this story, Shieldy recovered the Pawn.)
  • When Baguette tells Boat she finally knows what day of the calendar it is, that references BOTO 7 where she didn't know what month it was.
  • Napkin's appearance references his appearance in Sleep Mast R's BOTO comic, which was made in 2014 for the BOTO fanart contest.
  • The castle guard saying "Halt! No entrance without royal permission!" references Episode 2 of the Coconut Squad by Anko6. When Collin was trying to steal soap, the guard told him the same thing.
  • Shieldy saying "That's awesome!" is a direct reference to BOTO 5.

Production Notes[]

  • Shamrock's body asset in this story matches that in Sleep Mast R's Christmas music videos, "When Christmas Comes to Town" and "Believe."
